The M110 is a lightweight, semi-automatic, air-cooled, gas-operated, magazine-fed, shoulder-fired weapon that fires all NATO 7.62x51mm ammunition, to include long-range, armor-piercing, blanks, and special ball tip rounds. The M110 is commercially produced by Knight’s Armament Company. Used primarily for precision, the M110 is fielded with the M8541A Scout Sniper Day Scope (SSDS) and is also compatible with the AN/PVS-27 Sniper Mid-Range Night Sight (SSMRNS). Other features include: Back- Up Iron Sight (BUIS); adjustable buttstock; bipod; six (6) 20-round magazines with three (3) double magazine pouches, rifle sling, and a 3-15x Variable Power Scout Sniper Day Scope. A suppression device can be attached which acts as an integrated acoustic flash and blast. The rifle is also supplied with a transportation case, DMR flex-rod kit, and a cleaning kit. The M110 weighs 19 pounds with a loaded magazine and has a length of 46.5 inches with the suppressor attached and buttstock extended. The maximum effective range of the M110 is 800 meters with a sustained rate of fire of 5 rounds per minute for four minutes.
The M110 is utilized by scout snipers, designated marksman within security battalions, and Explosive Ordnance Disposal personnel. The M110 allows Marines to rapidly and accurately engage multiple at distances greater than the M16A4 Rifle.
