CHANGI, Singapore (Dec. 22, 2017) - The amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6) pulls in to RSS Singapura - Changi Naval Base, Singapore during a regularly scheduled port visit Dec. 22. America, part of the America Amphibious Ready Group, with embarked 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, is operating in the Indo-Asia Pacific region to strengthen partnerships and serve as a ready-response force for any type of contingency. LHA(R) Flight 0 (AMERICA) and Flight 1 (BOGAINVILLE) class ships replace the LHA/LHD class amphibious warfare ships. Flight 0 (LHA 6 and LHA 7) are modified LHD variants; Flight 1 (LHA 8 and LHA 9) are modified LHA 6 design with well deck and reduced island.
Provide forward presence and power projection as an integral part of joint, interagency, and multinational maritime expeditionary forces. Operate for sustained periods in transit to and operations in an Amphibious Objective Area to include embarking, transporting, controlling, inserting, sustaining, and extracting elements of a Marine Air-Ground Task Force and supporting forces by helicopters and tilt rotors supported by Joint Strike Fighters F-35B.

LHA 7: Physical Progress: 82% complete (11 Dec 2017) estimated delivery is Dec 2018.
LHA 8: Advanced Engineering and Long Lead Time Material (LLTM) Procurement Contract competitively awarded on 30 Jun 2016. Detail Design & Construction (DD&C) option exercised on 16 Jun 2017. LHA 8 scheduled to start full production in October 2018, ship is planned for delivery Jan 2024.
