The CCS is an immersive training environment for convoy operations that include basic procedures for driver, gunner, and passengers in tactical scenarios related to combat operations.
The simulator provides instruction in convoy operations including; resupply, patrol, logistics support, high-value target extraction, Medical Evacuation, call for close air support, call for fire and training in convoy tactics, techniques, procedures and use of weapons in compliance with rules of engagement. The CCS also provides training for both vehicle operators and individuals in vehicle and small arms weapon use, command and control, and Improvised Explosive Device attacks, response, and countermeasures. CCS provides guidance for Marines to respond to ambush attack and evolving enemy tactics in Military Operations on Urban Terrain settings.
The CCS is fully fielded with systems located aboard Camp Pendleton, CA (2); Kaneohe Bay, HI (1); Camp Lejeune, NC (2); Okinawa, JP (1); and Twentynine Palms, CA (1). The program entered Operations and Sustainment Phase of Acquisitions as of 17 December 2015. Currently, the program office is executing an Abbreviated Acquisition Program (AAP) to accomplish a technology refresh and modify the software and hardware of the fielded systems. Contract award in support of this effort is planned for Q3 FY18. Fielding of the modified systems is projected in Q4 FY19.
