The FIRS program provides enhanced commercial off the shelf (COTS) chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) protection, detection/identification, reconnaissance, incident response and consequence management capabilities used by the Chemical Biological Incident Response Force (CBIRF), Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD), Marine Special Operations Command (MARSOC), and the MAGTF to train for and operate in a CONUS or OCONUS CBRN environment.
The program provides enhanced CBRN equipment and consequence management capabilities used by the CBIRF, EOD, MARSOC, and the MAGTF to train for and respond to a CONUS or OCONUS CBRN attack, Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) incident or terrorist attack involving nuclear, biological, chemical, radiological devices/agents and participate in sensitive site exploitation with other first response organizations.
The FIRS MCPC fields, replenishes, and sustains 151 pieces of Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) equipment for the Marine Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF), 447 pieces of COTS equipment for the CBIRF, and 136 pieces of COTS equipment for MAGTF and MARSOC EOD teams. The FIRS MCPC relies on a comprehensive CLS concept of operations for the sustainment and maintenance of highly technical equipment which provides the capability to effectively respond to a CBRN attack, Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) incident or terrorist attack involving nuclear, biological, chemical, radiological devices/agents and conduct limited sensitive site exploitation.
Multiple manufacturers support the Family of Incident Response Systems.
